Our Mission

Girls Go Shred strives to build an inclusive community of supportive women. We organize various local events typically centering around women’s snow sports creating opportunities for connection, empowerment, and skill-building while celebrating our shared passions and interests.

Our Story

“The idea for Girls Go Shred was born in on the chairlift at Sugar Mountain because I didn’t have any girlfriends. It’s funny, but incredibly true.” -Kristen

Hey y’all! My name is Kristen also known as Krispy, and I am the found of Girls Go Shred. In 2015, I was the only woman working at Edge of the World Snowboard Shop in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Being relatively new to the area, I didn’t know many people outside of the shop and was finding it hard to meet women, especially women who snowboard. Riding with all the guys at Edge was so fun and we love guys that support girls (they are definitely some of Girls Go Shred’s biggest supporters), but sometimes you want to take some laps with the gals. I enlisted the help of Edge of the World and posted on the shop’s Facebook page for any and all girls who snowboard in the area to meet up one evening at Sugar Mountain. The women of the area turned out and Girls Go Shred was born. We have since branches out to ride day events at the local mountains, on-snow demos, beginner camps, and park clinics. We are focused on building community that is a safe and encouraging space for women of all ages and skill levels to gather and share in their interest in snow sports. Check out our events page and social media to see what events we have coming up. No matter if you have never been on the snow or you have been riding since before you could walk, we hope to see you on the slopes soon!
